Maps Privacy Policy
Updated October 11, 2026. This policy covers CloudJoe Locations and its map providers.
Location permission and storage
Your browser asks for permission before CloudJoe requests your device's location. Locate me displays a fresh point without saving it to your account. Record current location and enabled automatic recording save latitude, longitude, reported accuracy, capture time, creation time, and recording source with your CloudJoe account. These records come from your device and are independent of Google Maps or OpenStreetMap map content.
CloudJoe stores recorded points in the operator's configured database storage until you delete them. Storage backups may retain earlier copies according to the operator's backup configuration. Automatic recording runs only while the app is visible and stops on logout or page closure. You can stop automatic recording and change your browser's location permission.
Friends and deletion
Saved locations are private unless you choose an accepted CloudJoe friend and create a share. Current-location shares expose the latest saved point, including future updates. History shares expose saved history and future recorded points. You can revoke a share or remove the friendship to stop future reads through CloudJoe. Recipients may keep copies they have already viewed or saved. Deleting a saved point removes it from subsequent CloudJoe history and shared-history responses.
Third-party maps
OpenStreetMap is the default. Showing an OpenStreetMap map requests tiles describing the displayed map area from its tile service; those requests also disclose your IP address and browser request information. See the OpenStreetMap Foundation Privacy Policy.
When Google Maps is configured and selected, CloudJoe loads Google's Maps JavaScript API. Map display sends the displayed area, including current or saved coordinates shown on that map, to Google along with network and browser information such as your IP address and website origin. Merely viewing a location map may therefore disclose its displayed area to the selected provider, even when you do not record that point in CloudJoe. Google Maps features and content are covered by the Google Privacy Policy, incorporated here by reference, and the Google Maps/Google Earth Additional Terms of Service.
CloudJoe does not store Google map tiles, imagery, or other map content. The browser may cache resources according to the provider's response headers. Opening an external map link sends the coordinates in that link to the chosen map website.
