Backend storage

Mount an S3 bucket

Connect Amazon S3 or compatible storage. Your bucket appears as a folder in this workspace. Existing images and videos are indexed; uploads go to the bucket.

Temporary credentials

Credentials are encrypted on the server. Unmounting keeps bucket objects. Deleting files inside a mount deletes them from the bucket. Up to 10,000 objects per prefix; images and videos appear in the media library.

Help & platform guide

Practical answers for your private workspace.

Uploads & previews

Can I upload from my iPhone?

Open Upload media and choose Camera, Photos, or Files. Take a photo in a supported mobile browser, choose photos and videos, or browse media on your device. Uploads go to the folder you have open.

Which formats can I upload and preview?

Supported images: JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, AVIF, and BMP. Supported video files: MP4, WebM, Ogg, and MOV.

For an HEIC photo, choose Photos to request a compatible format, or export it as JPEG or PNG. Video playback depends on your browser and the file’s codec. CloudJoe does not convert HEIC images or transcode video.

Access & sharing

How do I join CloudJoe?

CloudJoe is currently invitation-only. Use the email address approved for your invitation when creating an account. Existing members can sign in as usual. To request access, email [email protected].

How do conversation invitations and friend requests work?

For a file or folder conversation, add the person’s email and share the copied link yourself. They sign in with that verified email. Invitations and friend requests appear in CloudJoe; automatic invitation emails are not sent.

Password accounts must link a Google account with the same email before using email-based invitations or friend requests. Google sign-in must be enabled for this deployment. A conversation invitation does not create a CloudJoe account or approve a new registration.

Does a conversation invitation share my media?

An invitation gives access to that file or folder’s conversation and its name. It does not grant access to media, downloads, your library, or conversations on a folder’s children. Friendship also does not share your library.

Share links are separate: anyone with a media share link can view and download the shared file. A folder share link includes its subfolders and files added to them. You can revoke a share link in the Share dialog. Shared team libraries and workspace roles are not currently available.

Bring your own S3 bucket

How do I connect an existing bucket?

Choose Mount S3 bucket. Enter the bucket, region, credentials, and your provider’s endpoint for S3-compatible storage. An optional prefix limits the connection to part of the bucket. Test the connection, then mount it to index supported images and videos in your library.

Open the mounted folder to browse its media or upload to that bucket and prefix. Use Refresh beside the mount to update the media index after changes outside CloudJoe.

Which permissions does my bucket need?

Listing and reading permissions are needed to find and preview media. Uploading also requires write permission. A successful connection test verifies listing access; it does not verify upload permission. Use credentials scoped to the bucket or prefix you want CloudJoe to access.

Unmounting keeps the bucket’s objects, but removes the connection and local comments on its indexed items.

Inbox & messages

Does the inbox send or receive email?

The inbox contains private in-app conversations between accepted CloudJoe contacts. Compose messages with a recipient, subject, and body; use Inbox, Sent, threaded replies, unread updates, and saved drafts.

Messages stay inside CloudJoe. There is no SMTP delivery to external mailboxes, and the inbox does not connect to your existing email provider. Participants must sign in, and CloudJoe checks their access before reading messages or sending replies.

Privacy & encryption

How are my files and bucket credentials protected?

Your library requires authenticated access. Conversation membership and media share links control access separately, so check the type of access before sharing.

CloudJoe encrypts saved S3 connection credentials with AES-256-GCM. Credentials are not returned in mount API responses or saved in browser storage. Media previews and downloads from mounted buckets pass through the backend.

Media encryption at rest depends on your storage provider and deployment settings. CloudJoe does not provide end-to-end encryption of files or messages. Use your bucket provider’s encryption controls and an HTTPS deployment for protected transport.
